Kyoto Animation's Free! the anime franchise will be getting an all-new anime film. The promotional teaser that dropped on the anime website announced that the film will open in 2021. The trailer states, "Haruka Nanase : his challenge on the world begins.."
THE FILM WAS DELAYED
The film was originally scheduled to release in summer 2020. However, the film staff announced in November 2019 that the film would be delayed due to "various circumstances". Their statement assured that the director and the entire staff are hard at work to create a film that would "meet the expectations" of their fans.
KYOTO ANIMATION ARSON
On July 18, 2018, the Kyoto Animation's first Studio building suffered an arson attack which resulted in the demise of 36 people and injured 33 people.
The latest addition to the popular Free! Franchise was Free! ~ Road to the World ~ Yume (Dream) which opened on July 5th, 2019 prior to the arson attack. The film was a 'reconstruction' of the television anime series Free! Dive to the Future and a 'bridge' to the upcoming film.
