Anyone who's ever watched anime will definitely have something new to mark on their calendar by the time they're through reading this week's anime news! New series, new seasons and new movies- that's the theme for This Week in Anime! Here's your Rapid Rundown:

1. New Dragon Ball Movie Announced!
This Saturday kick-started everyone's weekend on a great note as Torei Animation announced the release of the second upcoming Dragon Ball Super movie, set for release in 2022. Unfortunately, anything beyond this sentence is mere speculation and the specifics of the release, including its plot, release date and runtime remain an enigma for fans worldwide to decipher based off of a letter written by Toriyama. However, before we get to that bit, we ought to mention something very important: Toei Animations has gone on record to state that Toriyama has been actively involved in the making of the second Dragon Ball Super Movie and has overlooked and managed all aspects of the production process right from the story composition to the lines of the script and everything in between. This fact has lead Toei to boldly claim that the upcoming project will be a "Dragon Ball movie unlike any other in its history.”
While this does evoke great excitement in fans, it does little to alleviate our curiosity on what to expect from it. Toriyama, however, in discussing the movie with fans has stated the following in a letter:
"I shouldn’t talk too much about the plot yet, but be prepared for some extreme and entertaining bouts, which may feature an unexpected character. We’ll be charting through some unexplored territory in terms of the visual aesthetics to give the audience an amazing ride, so I hope everybody will look forward to the new movie."
Even though Toriyama didn't reveal anything of substance regarding the plot, at least he was kind enough to point us in a general direction of what lies in store- A new character joins the show, perhaps? Or is it a returning character? Is there a newer animation style in store? Will there be 3D fights?
Actually, scratch that- we still know nothing about the movie. Guess we'll just have to sit down and grit our teeth through the blue balls till more updates are made. Adilsons will persue every lead to keep u on top of this story!
2. Overlord Gets New Season & Movie!
Everyone's favorite dark isekai series had much in the way of good news to offer its fans this week: a live stream conducted by the voice actors of key cast members of the anime recently announced news of both the fourth season and a Movie for the franchise. Studio Madhouse has gained notoriety for producing great series but never following them up with sequels, but Overlord has solidified itself as a remarkable exception to this rule, much to the joy of fans everywhere. While the upcoming projects have been confirmed, no news has been made public of their expected date of release, so much so that we don't even have a ballpark timeline to work with.
While the plot of the movie remains equally cryptic, the content of the fourth season has been revealed. In the words of So-bin, the 10th volume of the Overlord light novels will "finally" be animated in the upcoming season, and work has already begun on it!
For those unfamiliar with the series, here's the overview as written by MAL Rewrite:
"The final hour of the popular virtual reality game Yggdrasil has come. However, Momonga, a powerful wizard and master of the dark guild Ainz Ooal Gown, decides to spend his last few moments in the game as the servers begin to shut down. To his surprise, despite the clock having struck midnight, Momonga is still fully conscious as his character and, moreover, the non-player characters appear to have developed personalities of their own!"
If you haven't seen the show yet, there's no excuses left! You'll have plenty of time to get acquainted with the story well in time for the upcoming releases!
3. Castlevania's Last Season Premieres!
Based off the titular games, Netflix's Castlevania series has entered its last chapter with the release of the first episode of its fourth and final season on the 13th of May. With 9 more episodes yet to go and an action-packed sequence soon to come (if you know, you know 😏), the end is closer than fans are ready to accept. Good news, however, is that another series set within the Castlevania universe is currently in the works, but we shouldn't expect any further information on this matter until the end of the main show.
For those unfamiliar with the Castlevania series (yes, all seven of you people in the world!), here's the synopsis to get you up to speed:
"When his wife is burned at the stake after being falsely accused of witchcraft, the vampire Count Dracula declares all the people of Wallachia will pay with their lives. He summons an army of demons which overruns the country, causing the people to live lives of fear and distrust. To combat this, the outcast monster hunter Trevor Belmont takes up arms against Dracula's forces, aided by the magician Sypha Belnades and Dracula's dhampir son Alucard."
4. Netflix: "Eden" Anime About To Arrive!
Offering a fresh twist to the tideously abused genre of humans vs machines is Netflix's latest entry: "Eden". Seemingly set in a world dominated by machines, the show follows the journey of a girl (Sarah) and her robotic acquaintances on a journey to offer hope to humanity... or what's left of it. Set for release on May the 27th, Eden's summary as listed on Netflix's official website is as follows:
"A human girl secretly raised by robots starts to uncover the dark secrets behind her lush, utopian world where humanity has all but vanished."
What's more is that a trailer was recently released for the show, confirming the fact that it is modeled after Japanese anime, but with a more american 3D twist to it. While the stylism took us some getting used to, the show has been listed as appropriate for family viewing, so it's best not to hold unnaturally high standards from its animation as would be the case for anime animed at more mature audiences. Nevertheless, the story boldy sets itself up with a definitively serious undertone despite the glamour and flashiness which have been thrown in to appeal to younger audiences. You can catch the trailer for the show here.
