Ohayo dear readers! Adilsons returns with more weekly updates pertaining to everything anime; this time to highlight all the important ongoings in the 4th week of March which made waves around the world. This week brought with it new releases, narrowing deadlines and the unfortunate passing of one of the greatest names in the anime industry. Join us in joy and mourning as we discuss this week's hot news. Here's your Rapid Rundown:
1. The Detective is Already Dead Nears Closer!
2. Musical Releases Galore!!!
3. Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness Trailer Released!
4. This Week in Japan: Osamu Kobayashi
1. The Detective is Already Dead Nears Closer!
The Detective is Already Dead, otherwise titled Tantei wa Mou, Shindeiru anime has been confirmed to receive an anime adaptation and just released a new key visual of the show featuring its protagonists. The light novel, which the show is based on, has received great critical acclaim and ranks 4th in the best light novel category of Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! The show also boasts a unique concoction of genres: Romance, Drama, Mystery and Comedy all meld together here, hinting that it could be a fresh break from the highly stereotypical anime tropes which are blatantly abused in more and more anime these days.
While anime these days seem to be titled with increasingly long and downright comical titles, translations for this anime's Japanese title seem unnecessary, as many have pointed out its close resemblance to the omae wa mo, Shindeiru meme- a cult classic in anime communities. For those finding their curiosity piqued by this unique anime, the synopsis is as follows:
"Kimizuka Kimihiko is a crisis-magnet. From getting caught up in a crime scene to accidentally witnessing a drug deal, trouble seems to find him around every corner. So it is no surprise when his rather mundane flight suddenly enters a state of emergency with a dire need of a detective onboard. Unfortunately, his attempt at avoiding trouble is foiled by a beautiful girl with silver hair who goes by the codename Siesta. Declaring herself a detective, she unceremoniously drags Kimizuka into the case as her assistant."
[Written by MAL Rewrite]
After several perilous adventures across the globe with her partner, Siesta's sudden death three years later leaves Kimizuka alone and broken. Determined to return to a normal life, the lad spends a year flying under the radar in high school, only to find himself face to face with another girl who bears a striking resemblance to his ex-partner, Siesta.
Now that's an premise that has our attention! As long as the show doesn't lull itself into mediocrity by getting hooked up in stereotypes, we'll go out on a limb to say that there's real potential to be found here! We'll be keeping an eye on this one, folks- even if it's set for release in July!
2. Musical Releases Galore!!!
Last week's anime news brought with it the introduction of two rising titles in the anime universe, namely "To Your Eternity" and "Vivy Fluorite Eye's Song"- two captivating and emotionally-charged additions to 2021's already impressive roster of new shows. It's our great pleasure to bring them both into the limelight yet again in announcing that both entries have released a part of their soundtracks. We'll handle them one at a time:
•To Your Eternity has released both its opening and ending songs on YouTube, following the recent release of its second episode. You may recall that the first episode begun on a rather somber note and skipped the opening, but we finally got to hear it this week, and we're already hooked! You can catch the opening theme and closing theme in these links!
•Vivy Fluorite didn't lag behind in the slightest, as it finally released its opening video, along with a few other tracks, on several sites online. With its sharper artwork and clearer design, we're not gonna pretend like we don't already hold a bias for this opening, but we'll leave it to you to decide which one you like more! Here's the video, as it appears on YouTube.
Since we have the opportunity to examine these entries again, we'll take the time to mention that both titles have stayed true to their design as it appeared in their pilot episodes, although there's still a long way to go for both entries. Needless to say, these are shaping up to be some of the best anime we've ever laid eyes on- but we'll hold any more comments until we see what lies in store!
3. Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness Trailer Released!
Everyone's favorite zombie franchise is finally getting itself an animated adaptation, meaning that after the release of Infinite Darkness, the Resident Evil franchise will boast not only movies and games to its name, but also a Netflix series that's already set to take the world by storm!
Announced in the Resident Evil [Biohazard] Showcase, the trailer for the show was aired, and its release was revealed to be in July. What's getting everyone even more hyped up is that several big names in anime were revealed to be part of the show's team, with prominent names like Yūgo Kanno for music (he's worked on JoJo, y'all!) and Eiichir Hasumi as the director (Assassination Classroom, anyone?).
THIS, ladies and gentlemen, just might be the biggest crossover event in anime history! You can check out the official trailer for the show here!
The synopsis, as revealed during the event, is as follows:
"The series takes place in 2006 after a hacking incident is uncovered at the White House. Leon Kennedy was ordered to investigate the incident, but he encounters zombies when the White House is targeted in a mysterious attack. He later meets Claire, who's been checking a strange drawing made by a child refugee while working on a Terrasave-led mission to oversee construction of a welfare facility."
4. This Week in Japan: Osamu Kobayashi
While the past two weeks have been rather silent on this front (in terms of Japan news updates), this inactivity was shattered by the untimely announcement of the demise of one of the most renowned faces in the anime industry; the passing of Osamu Kobayashi as he lost a two year battle with kidney cancer. In order to give this news the reverence and respect that it deserves, Adilsons has made a special atricle as a tribute to Osamu's plethora of contributions to the anime scene. You may read this article on our Anime blogs section, where it will be featured as a special entry for this week.
While it pains us to end off on a sad note, it is imperative that we mourn Osamu's passing as a show of respect towards his work, which will continue to brighten the days of all who go on to watch it in the years to come. We'll catch you next week with more news and updates, dear readers. Until then, stay hydrated and keep watching anime.
