This Week in Anime [Week 14, 2021]
Date Published: Thurs 8th April, 2021
Ohayou Gozaimas to all our dear readers! We're pleased to have you back for another issue of This Week in Anime. The second week of April has been a rather slow one with few headlines of note, perhaps owing to an increasingly dire situation in Japan (with respect to Covid-19), with Osaka declaring a medical red alert and Tokyo opting to put more comprehensive restrictions in effect. While the global case count shows no indication of spiking, this does not diminish the importance of remaining ever so vigilant about the state of the global pandemic. That said, we urge all our readers to be ever so careful and keep themselves safe from ill-health!
Here's your Rapid Rundown:
1. AOT Manga Ends!
2. Tesla Note Anime Confirmed!
3. Love After World Domination Anime!
1. AOT Manga Ends!
The final chapter of the Attack on Titan manga (#139), although scheduled for release tomorrow (today for our readers), has already seen spoilers, summaries and pictures leaked on several forums online. While Adilsons in no way supports, encourages or condones such unauthorized dissemination of copyrighted content, it is difficult to ignore the myriad of websites and forums threads popping up all over the internet to discuss the contents of final chapter even 1 day before its release. We encourage all our readers to be particularly cautious in the days to follow, as spoilers are already appearing on Facebook and Twitter.
It is perhaps interesting to note that the reactions to the final chapter appear to be, as of the time of writing, more or less mixed with parties vehemently defending both perspectives on the finale. We shall not elaborate in the slightest, worry not.
Attack on Titan creator Hajime Ishiyama went on record earlier this week with a very interesting and insightful response on what thoughts went in his head as he worked on the ending of his most successful creation. He said the following:
"I was a big fan of Game of Thrones, so I can relate to the feelings of those fans who were disappointed with how the series ended, but when I'm drawing, I'm expressing my own feelings and as long as I'm doing that, my fans will be able to accept whatever ending I come up with for them."
While the full meaning behind words is yet to be understood, what can be discerned with confidence is that Ishiyama has put himself in the position of a reader when producing his work, meaning that happy or not- the ending to Attack on Titan should at least be in accord with the story, unlike the tragedy incurred by the entire cast of Season 8 of Game of Thrones.
Is that redemption enough? We'll find out in just a few hours, dear readers.
2. Tesla Note Anime Confirmed!
This Wednesday saw a majorly hyped announcement from Kodansha Studios about the upcoming release of an anime adaptation of the Tesla Note manga by Masafumi Nishida, Tadayoshi Kubo, and Kōta Sannomiya. The website for the anime also released a teaser, which you can check out right here!
The synopsis of the anime, for those interested, is as follows:
"Mission T is a secret operation to save the world from destruction. Trained as a ninja from a young age, Botan Negoro, raised to become the ultimate spy, teams up with another excellent spy, Kuruma. Their aim is to recover the legacy of the genius inventor Nikola Tesla, the "Shards of Tesla." Can the two outwit the agents of other countries who are also pursuing these fragments? A super-original spy thriller begins."
If you haven't even heard of the manga, don't fret- the first issue saw the light of major publishing only on January the 6th of this year, after being featured in the Weekly Shounen Magazine. After giving the first few chapters of the manga a read, our review of the manga is rather positive. If anything, the manga reminded us of Psycho Pass but we can't quite place a finger on why that's the case. We'll be happy to get your feedback if you do give the manga a skim!
3. Love After World Domination Anime!
It's a pretty strange name, we admit, but nothing takes the cake for that award better than "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime", so that's something! We're finding it difficult to categorize this entry into a particular genre (we haven't really read a lot of it) so we'll just play it safe and tentatively assign it the Romcom label for all intents and purposes. Mind you, the premise for this anime is pretty unique and sometimes downright weird, but with a fun twist.
The announcement was made through the official Twitter account for the anime, but a definitive date of release is still up in the air. The news has been very well recieved, particularly on Reddit, where the post has already (at the time of writing) accrued over 18K upvotes, indicating that this really was a well anticipated event. The synopsis for the story is as follows:
"In the eyes of the public, Fudou Aikawa and Desumi Magahara are sworn enemies who have nothing in common. Fudou, also known as “Red Gelato,” is the leader of the hero squadron “Gelato 5,” whose mission is to bring about world peace. On the other hand, Desumi is the minion leader of “Gecko,” a villainous organization seeking world domination. However, despite these differences, their relationship is not quite what it seems. When they are not making a show of being at each other’s throats, Desumi and Fudou continue to pursue a forbidden love.
Going on dates, baking sweets for one another, and meeting up as often as they can despite their hectic schedules, the two inexperienced lovebirds pave the way for their own unique relationship. Though their public lives are worlds apart, Fudou and Desumi will stop at nothing to make their seemingly impossible romance work.

Romcom isn't usually our cup of tea, but if you enjoy the genre, then Love After World Domination just might be right up your alley! You can check out the anime website over here!
And that's a wrap for this week's segment, minna! Unfortunately, due to the increasing severity of the covid condition in parts of Japan, social activities in the country are being regulated with escalating vigor, meaning they're all home watching anime! Until next time, we hope you do the same and keep living your passion minna!
*Fun Fact about Japan: 69% of the country is covered in Forest.
"Perfectly balanced, as all things should be." 😏
