Product releases, tearful farewells, honorable recognitions and fresh beginnings all found a place in the anime world this week. Without further ado, here's your Rapid Rundown:
1. Divinity Unleashed in YuGiOh!
2. New anime from MAPPA!
3. Farewell, Seven Deadly Sins!
4. This Week in Japan: Levi Ackerman!
1. Divinity Unleashed in YuGiOh!
Stop whatever you're doing and pay attention lads: this news is gonna blow you back a millennia or two. Whether or not you still follow YuGiOh in any form, the significance of this news is something you'll understand without the need for any emphasis. Remember back in your childhood when YuGiOh didn't involve motorcycles and dragons dressed up like waitresses? Back when attack points were all that mattered and the price for losing a duel was your own life, instead of losing a bet? Yea, good times right? Well, we're revisiting those nostalgic times with a bang because Konami has just announced the simultaneous release of TWO huge structure decks!
What's the big deal, you ask?
Remember the strongest monsters in all of YuGiOh; the three Egyptian God Cards that Yugi and Kaiba always fought over? Two of these divine behemoths are now getting specially constructed structure decks to bring out their true powers in a way that would put any deck today to shame! Raise the curtains people, because Konami has just announced the momentous release of two of the most anticipated decks of all time: Egyptian God Deck: Slifer the Sky Dragon! and Egyptian God Deck: Obelisk the Tormentor!
These historic monsters are coming back with a bang, each with a strategy specifically designed to evoke the absolute fullest potential of its respective Egyptian God! Wash away the dreaded memories of desperately seeking out these behemoths in your childhood, only to end up with a fake copy- both Slifer and Obelisk descend from the heavens right into the palm of your hand! Each 40 card Structure deck comes packed with 4 Ultra Rare cards, 3 Super Rares and 32 Commons, in addition to a Deluxe Gaming Mat for you to display the full wrath of your Deck on!
These timeless classics also find new cards in their arsenal to supplement their already intimidating power and blast all modern competition right into the sands of ancient Egypt! Konami has revealed 2 such cards- both of which are based on the signature attack of the God which it supports!
Here's the new card based on Slifer's attack: Thunderforce Attack! Based on Slifer’s signature attack, this Spell can destroy all your opponent’s face-up monsters at any time, but if you use it during your own Main Phase you can draw a card for each monster destroyed!
Obelisk isn't left behind, as his legendary attack has also been immortalized: Fist of Fate!, using which you can negate a monster’s effect and destroy it immediately. Activate during your own Main Phase and you can crush all your opponent’s Spells and Traps as well!
So! Which structure deck are you gonna buy? Will you follow in the footsteps of Yugi and dominate the scene with Slifer, or will you be like the cool-headed Kaiba and crush your competition with the mighty Obelisk? Or will you control BOTH the Gods in a deck or your own making? The choice is yours, duelists! No fancy cards or complex combos are needed to wield these legendary classics!
2. New Anime from MAPPA!
MAPPA Studios is on everyone's minds lately- these are the people who currently animate Attack on Titan and other extremely popular anime such as Jujitsu Kaisen... and they do a damn fine job at it! So naturally when people found out that a long-awaited anime by the name of Yasuke was also going to be animated by these guys, it spawned huge followings and many discussions.
Here's the official synopsis for the anime:
In a war-torn feudal Japan filled with mechs and magic, the greatest ronin never known, Yasuke, struggles to maintain a peaceful existence after a past life of violence. But when a local village becomes the center of social upheaval between warring daimyo, Yasuke must take up his sword and transport a mysterious child who is the target of dark forces and bloodthirsty warlords.
What isn't obvious from this summary, however, is that Yasuke is the first African Samurai. Although this remains a historical fact, the show is themed as a fantasy, meaning that it's not bound to follow any singular path dictated by history. The plot will see Yasuke get dragged back into a violent past as he attempts to protect a girl from unknown forces of evil.
LeSean Thomas, creator of the show (you may recognize him as the creator of The Boondocks as well) and MAPPA studios are both independently known for producing excellent anime, so fans are even more hyped in anticipation of the anime, which will be 6 episodes long and premiere on Netflix on the 29th of April, 2021.
We'd be lying if we said we aren't excited as well!
3. Farewell, Seven Deadly Sins!
With the final episode of the anime set to air on April the 7th, the Seven Deadly Sins franchise is all set to wind down and their fanbase is dreading the day episode 13 airs and heralds the end of their beloved franchise. While such a progression is part and parcel of every anime's lifespan, fans of the show were elated to find out that the film titled The Seven Deadly Sins: Cursed By Light has seen a teaser release from the official website for the anime! You can catch it here:

The opening date for the movie is July the 2nd and it has been revealed to be a sequel to the anime with an all-new story! While not much else about the movie is known at this juncture, it certainly dulls the pain of bidding goodbye to such a fantastic series. Adilsons will keep you posted on any developments in this field!
4. This Week in Anime: Levi Ackerman!
Or rather, Captain Levi! (Let's show some respect to the 1 man army before we piss him off with our insubordination!)
It's pointless for us to introduce this character, since he's one of the most famous characters not only in AOT, but in anime itself! For those unfortunate enough to not know this legend, we'll say this: he's short, he's angry and he slices through titans like an angry beyblade. That's Captain Levi: enough said!
But why is captain Levi in the spotlight right now? He hasn't been doing anything aside from babysitting (no spoilers, don't worry) for the last few episodes, right? Wrong. Captain Levi's legendary feats and immense popularity have immortalized him in otaku culture- and what better way to exemplify this than with a statue erected in his honour!
That's right folks! Last Saturday, the hometown of Hajime Isayama (Hita City of Oita Prefecture) hosted the unveiling of a life-sized bronze statue dedicated in honour of the captain! One more reason in the ever-growing list for us to visit Japan!
The creator of the show (Ishiyama), had this to say after the statue was unveiled: “He is the most popular character that has supported Attack on Titan all the way, and I’m indebted to him. I hope he is pleased.”
We're pleased too! Very pleased indeed!
